Principals Report

Dear Families,

We’ve had a wonderful start to Term 3, filled with celebration, community spirit, and learning milestones.

Athletics Carnival
A huge thank you to our amazing parents for their incredible support at the Athletics Carnival. Your encouragement means so much to our students. Thank you also to our dedicated staff for their hard work, and a special shout-out to Miss Barron for her leadership and organisation in the lead-up to the event.

NAIDOC Liturgy – 25th July
Today we held our NAIDOC liturgy, honouring the theme “The Next Generation – Strength, Vision & Legacy.” Our students read beautifully, and it was heartwarming to see so many families join us. We were blessed to have Bishop Ken and Fr Peter in attendance. Thank you to the Quilpie Shire Council for generously providing the NAIDOC cake—it was a lovely way to end our celebration.

100 Days of Learning Party
Congratulations to Miss Norman and the Prep/Year 1 class for organising a joyful 100 Days of Learning celebration! The jelly cups and lollies were a hit, and it was wonderful to see parents engaging with their children’s work and progress so far this year.

Welcome Miss Lucy Norman
We’re thrilled to have Miss Lucy Norman teaching the Prep/Year 1 class for the next four weeks. Her presence has already made a positive impact, and we’re grateful for her support of our students and community.

Pyjama Day – Next Friday
Next Friday is Pyjama Day! Students are invited to wear their PJs to school and bring a gold coin donation to support foster children. It’s a fun way to raise awareness and contribute to a great cause.

Welcome Prac Teachers
We welcome Hallie Thompson and Alice Andrade from UniSQ, who will be completing two weeks of practical experience with us. Hallie will be in the Year 5/6 class Monday–Thursday and with Prep/Year 1 on Friday. Alice will be working with the Year 2/3 class. We’re excited to have them join our learning community.

Celebrating Our Community
In a small school like ours, the support of families and the dedication of staff make all the difference. Acknowledging the extra work our teachers and staff put in is a powerful way to show gratitude.

“Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.” – Voltaire

Until next time,
Kara Marsh
Principal – St Finbarr’s School, Quilpie

100 Days of learning

100 Days of Learning in Prep is a joyful celebration marking a major milestone in a child's first year of school. It represents 100 days of growth, discovery, and development — academically, socially, and emotionally.

For Prep students, those first 100 days are filled with learning foundational skills like:

  • Recognising letters and sounds
  • Counting and number recognition
  • Exploring patterns and shapes
  • Building friendships and learning routines
  • Developing independence and confidence

The 100th day is often celebrated with a themed party where students engage in fun activities that revolve around the number 100.

Pyjama Day 1st August

National Pyjama Day – Friday, 1st August

We are excited to celebrate National Pyjama Day on Friday, 1st August! All students are invited to participate by wearing their favourite pyjamas to school for the day. If preferred, students may also choose to wear their regular school uniform.

To support this fun and meaningful initiative, we kindly ask each student to bring a gold coin donation.

All proceeds will go towards supporting children in foster care through the Pyjama Foundation.

Thank you for your support in helping us make a difference while having a bit of fun!

Book Week Dress up Day 18th Aug

Book Week is Coming – Dress-Up Day: Monday, 18th August

We’re thrilled to announce that Book Week is fast approaching, and this year’s theme is “Book an Adventure” – a celebration of the exciting journeys and imaginative worlds that stories can take us on.

To mark the occasion, we will be holding a Dress-Up Day on Monday, 18th August. Students are encouraged to come dressed as a character from their favourite book, especially one that embodies the spirit of adventure. Whether it’s a daring explorer, a magical hero, or a curious creature from a faraway land, we can’t wait to see the creativity and enthusiasm on display.

Book Week is a wonderful opportunity to foster a love of reading and storytelling, and we look forward to celebrating with our school community.

Let the adventure begin!

St Finbarr's Student Protection Contacts

It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate.  We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs.  Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection.  Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs.  The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes.  In everything we do at St Finbarr's student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes.  Please see the poster depicting our current SSPC team.
